Our Mission and Purpose

Join us

Chartered in July of 2003 the Krewe of St. Brigit was formed with community service endeavors in mind.

With the collective resources of our members, we aspire to make significant contributions to our community with charities that benefit women and children as a priority in our fundraising efforts.

In 2008 we debuted our "tavern" float. The float is inspired by a local Irish tavern and the design of Mary Dietz (1959-2014), one of our founding members.  The Tavern idea is derived from a bar here in Tampa, Four Green Fields is the Thatched Roof Pub with 3 locations in Tampa.

Our members are from all walks of life but are mainly professional business women and men.  Originally, we started as a woman only krewe but grew to realize that our husbands, sons, nephews and significant others enjoyed coming along and having fun.  The men have a special bond with each other as they are few in numbers.

When you are asked to be a part of the Krewe of St Brigit you will find that we are very low-key.  We dress in 15th century maiden attire and the men can wear kilts or breeches that are from the same error.  The dresses are long and full skirts with blouses and some type of over vest, large belt or conservative corset.  During induction during a private event you are given your member pin and your Brigit Sash which is worm during ALL Parades.

Dues are payable annually and are due during the month of July.  We participate in 3 parades between Jan & March and the rest of the time we have socials and other private affairs.  We also participate with other krewe's so your calendar can be as full as you wish it to be.

Simply fill out the application, submit your initiation fee of $100.  Once accepted with in the next 30 days you will be asked to pay your annual dues of $350.  This fee will allow you participation in all parades and invitations to 4 member parties.  One is in September for the kick off season.  December for the Christmas season, then the Thursday before Gasparilla parade of Pirates we will have a private ceremony initiating all new members.  After the parade season is over and we relax but before the summer begins we have a May wrap up meeting where we announce the incoming board and any summer activities.

Finally you only need to know that we have a large Charity Gala in September to fund our annual giving.  This is one of the larger Gala's in "Krewe World" and is full of tradition, laughter, elegance and friendship.  We partner with 2 other Celtic krewes, which makes it that much more fun!

About us

Krewe of St. Brigit was chartered in July, 2003 and formed with community service endeavors in mind. The collective resources of our members aspire to make significant contributions to our community with women’s charities a priority in our fundraising efforts.  In 2008 we débuted our “tavern” float.  The float is inspired by a local Irish tavern and is the design of Mary Dietz (1959-2014), one of our founding members.  Helped by many of the float fairies over the past few years it is now a detailed and intriguing float that has many special symbols that only we understand and appreciate, as special members of our society of women.

In 2012 we joined the Krewe of Shamrock and The Highlanders to host the Tampa Bay Tartan Ball.  The ball has become one of the talked about events of the pre-season and is dated around the time of the Celtic Fall Solstice.

We also celebrate Imbolc, traditionally held February 1st , which is regarded as the true First Day of Spring, the Celtic Season of Light, when bonfires burned in honor of Brigid the goddess, symbolizing purification after being confined to one's home during the long bleak winter.  But since the YMKG Day parade falls within this time period we, as a krewe, gather the night before the parade to celebrate Imbolc.

Become a member

To become a member of (KOSB) the Krewe of St Brigit, you must be sponsored by one of our members and we are limited by 75 members.  We accept both women and men, but we are a matriarchal society so men have no vote. Our members are from all over Florida and from all walks of life.

On the months when we do not have a formal event, we meet to chat, cajole and “catch up” with each other.  The socials are scheduled throughout the city and usually fall on the 3rd Thursday of the month.  This is the best chance to meet us and get to know our members before deciding if this is a good fit for you.  You can email us and ask for an invitation by telling us a little about yourself.  We participate in the 3 Major parades at this time….Gasparilla Parade of the Pirates, Knights of Sant’ Yago Knight Parade, and the Rough Riders St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
